    Creative Arts building elevator out of service

    The elevator in the Creative Arts building in the south-west corner of the building (BECA) is out of service for emergency repairs. It is anticipated that it will be out of service at least until Friday afternoon. I will update you as more information becomes available.

    Campus Quad - Library Construction Fence Re-Alignment

    Details:
    The Library construction fence has been re-aligned to close access to the Library ground floor entrance at the west end of the Library. The ground floor may be reached via the Library elevators. Also, the main entrances to the Library have been fenced to allow control of pedestrian access from the east. This configuration is necessary to allow safe passage of construction trucks crossing the pedestrian pathway into the Library. When necessary, access to the Library will be closed off momentarily for the passage of construction vehicles. Lot #3 has also been closed to pedestrian traffic as that area is now a part of the construciton zone. Access to the Administration Buiding exterior elevator is being maintained. Finally, this configuration of the fence will remain until the completion of the west addition to the Library currently schedule for April 6, 2010.

    Alternate Access:
    Access to the campus from Holloway Avenue is posssible from either the pathway east of Administration Building or the pathway east of Creative Arts.

    Library Construction Fence Change

    Due to site utility conditions, the contractor will be extending the westerly side of the Library construction fence north to the Student Union berm, blocking the east-west walkway in the area of the south side of the Student Union. This configuration will be in place for the foreseeable future. Also, as a part of this fence re-configuration, the fenced walkway entry to the Library ground floor is moving approximately 80 feet east.

    Alternate Access:
    From the northeast end of Creative Arts Building,follow the walkway/Library construction fence north into the Malcolm X Plaza and then easterly to the original walkway at the front of the Library.

    Temporary Detour at South Quad Walkway, Quad Paving Project

    On July 30, 2008 work will begin on a pathway paving project parallel to the existing southerly accessible walkway in front of the Library on the Quad. The existing pathway is required to be closed temporarily until August 15, 2008 when the work is scheduled to be completed . This task is necessary to provide an alternate accessible pathway for the Campus when the Library construction project fence is relocated later this fall.

    Alternate Access:
    During this 3 week period please detour around this area using either the existing pathway on the north side of the Quad or Holloway Avenue which can be reached via the pathway to the east of Administration Building.

    Library Construction Fence, West Side, Site Utilities Work

    Details:
    Due to site utilities, a temporary work area is being set up with delineators, barrier tape, and toe rail along the west side of the Library construction fence. The work area is a 20 foot by 20 foot 'push-out' of the fenced construction site and does not block the entire walkway where this work occurs. July 28, 2008 Update: Work is complete and obstructions have been removed.

    Holloway Avenue at Library - Closed to Pedestrian Traffic

    Details:
    Monday, July 7, 2008 through Friday, July 11, 2008 (7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) each day, the sidewalk along the north side of Holloway Avenue from Lot #3 on the east to Creative Arts Building on the west, will be closed to pedestrian traffic due to Library construction activities along the south side of the Library.

    Alternate Access:
    Either use the sidewalk on the south side of Holloway Avenue as directed by signs and flaggers in this area or use the campus pathways as alternate routes.

    Creative Arts Sidewalk Repairs

    The existing sidewalk on the east side of the Creative Arts Building (near the end of the newly installed accessible ramp) will be closed for repairs Tuesday morning June 10, 2008 from 6:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

    Winston Drive Stair Closure

    Library Work Start-Up

    Details:
    In reference to the start of operations at the Library, installation of an 8 foot tall construction fence began this morning, May 27, 2008. From now until October 2008, the fencing will remain in this configuration. Screening materials will be added in the next few days. A accessible walkway from Holloway to the Quad is also being installed starting today and will be complete by the end of work tomorrow. This aluminum ramp located immediately along the east side of the Creative Arts Building will provide access throughout the construction period of the west addition.

    Alternate Access:
    Today and tomorrow, the alternate route is to either use the walkway to the immediate east of the ADM Building or Tapia Drive to gain access to the Quad from Holloway Avenue.

    Automatic Door Repairs at 4th Floor ADM

    East-West ADA accessible pathway between the Student Health Center and Burk Hall is closed due to urgent plumbing repairs. The repairs require Facilities to dig up several main building valves and replace them. The construction will be completed on 11/23/2007.

    Alternate Access:
    Eastbound traffic should go around the south side of Burk Hall. Westbound traffic should proceed across the Student Health Center.

    The elevator in the HSS building is out of service for emergency repairs. The car will be out of service for most of today. It is not known at this time exactly what the problem is so I will update you this afternoon if it is going to be longer than a one-day outage.

    Campus Pathway improvements- west side Cesar Chavez Center

    Corrections to ADA pathway deficiencies along the west side of the Student Center from Fine Arts to Burk Hall. All access to the west side pathway will be closed intermittently through out the construciton period. The Garden of Remembrance entries to Burk and Fine Arts are open, but access to the Student Center may be obstructed

    Visitors are encouraged to use routes on the north side of Burk Hall or the South side of Fine Aets.
